Finding my place in the petite and extra petite tribe

Finding my place in the petite and extra petite tribe

The best part about creating a dedicated platform for your tribe is that you can connect with people who live and think the same way as you and face the same challenges as you.

I’m so excited to meet and grow alongside my tribe.

Hi, my name is Ambreen Nouman. I was raised in a multicultural environment. Although I was born and raised in Abu Dhabi (UAE), I am originally from Pakistan. My husband and I now live in the picturesque city of Auckland, New Zealand, with our four children.

It all started when I moved here in February 2018, and for the first time, I properly tried western clothes. I had only ever sported a pair of jeans once during a college trip!

I didn’t realize that as a petite woman, at 150cm (4’11”), finding a pair of jeans that fit perfectly with these proportions could be such a daunting task. I noticed that whenever I went shopping for jeans, I would end up in the fitting room with jeans that engulfed my midriff and were bulky at the knee. I had no clue why it was like this. Bitterly, I always ended up buying whatever I considered an okay fit, usually going for a cropped style. This, I soon discovered, was a huge mistake. (Because I’m a petite pear, I have another set of challenges too, but that’s a story for another day.)

I believe that no matter how expensive a piece of fabric is if it does not fit well, it should be thrown out. Having a passion for digging deep into any subject at hand, I decided to look up the sizing of the jeans. I was surprised to discover that there is a clothing size range called β€œpetite”. That was the first time I learned there was a so-called petite size range available on the market that was suitable for short women.

In celebration of my newly found knowledge, I set off to shop for petite jeans. But alas! Even so, the chosen pair didn’t do justice to my proportions and despite my best efforts, the experience left a pungent taste in my mouth.

Disappointed that I would never find a fit that was specially tailored for me, I searched petite sizes again, only to discover the harsh reality that petite clothing is only for women who are around 5’4″ tall, leaving us women under 5’4″ in undiscovered territory. My options were limited, and I felt I didn’t have a choice.

To cut a long story short, my research led me to discover that some brands have short inseams, though they are relatively uncommon. As I learned more about my petite tribe through social media I realized I wasn’t the only one with this problem!

In response to this revelation, I decided to launch yours truly petite, a petite clothing brand that caters to women, who are under 5’4”.

In response to this revelation, I created a brand that caters not only to my needs but also to those of my tribe members.

Now here I am, with my fabulous petite clothing line, attempting to understand the intricacies of e-commerce with the help of my hubby dear and mentor Robyn Foryyan (who taught me everything about the business side of the business). It is because of their support that I am able to step outside of my comfort zone and pursue my dreams.

My goal is to grow this online petite clothing brand and turn it into a petite shopping destination based on the desires of my tribe.

Welcome to the online world of petites and extra-petites clothing, where we will grow together according to our own standards.

Ambreen here, signing off as a petite ambassador. If you’re under 5’4″ and have a love-hate relationship with the so-called petite sizes on the market, join us by signing up for our monthly newsletter to stay in the loop on what’s new at our end.

  1. I’m looking forward to seeing your range, I’m 4ft 10, 147cm. I find tops ok but jeans has always been a problem fit.

    Kind regards
